Always Nicaea.

Present, Ecumenical Memories, and the History of the Council of Nicaea (325-2025)

The Council of Nicaea (325) represents a pivotal moment in the history of Christianity, not only because of the issues it addressed but also due to the documents it promulgated, the manner in which it was convened, its varied reception, and its continued relevance to the life of the Church, with particular emphasis on ecumenical dialogue.

In light of the 1700th anniversary of its convocation, it seemed fitting to establish an international historical-religious research initiative titled Always Nicaea: Present, Ecumenical Memories, and the History of the Council of Nicaea (325-2025). This project aims to explore the enduring significance and contemporary relevance of the Council of Nicaea, with a focus on the study of the Council itself and its reception within an ecumenical framework.

The project is promoted by the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Southern Italy - St. Thomas Aquinas Section (Naples), the Universidade Católica de Pernambuco (Recife), and the Centro Studi per l'Ecumenismo in Italia (Florence), in collaboration with various institutions and under the patronage of ecumenical bodies and associations dedicated to the study of Church history.

Encompasses seminar sessions, an international conference, the compilation of a comprehensive bibliography, and the publication of the DiarioNicea, which will document meetings and initiatives related to the 1700th anniversary of the Council.

The project, coordinated by a Scientific Secretariat, involves the participation of 77 scholars from 13 countries and is organized into four thematic areas:

1. The History of the Council of Nicaea

2. The Council of Nicaea in the Century of the Reformation

3. Ecumenical Dialogue and the Council of Nicaea

4. The Council of Nicaea and the Church in the 21st Century.
